DotConnectAfrica Trust contributions to the NETmundial Conference April 2014

DotConnectAfrica has sent its contribution to the global internet governance conference on March 2014. This meeting will focus on the elaboration of principles of Internet governance and the proposal for a roadmap for future development of this ecosystem on the Multistakeholder model and its effectiveness in the changing Scope and Oversight Roles of ICANN in Internet Governance and DNS Management.

The Global Multistakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance will focus on crafting Internet governance principles and proposing a roadmap for the further evolution of the Internet governance ecosystem.  The meeting is scheduled for this week April 23rd and 24th 2014 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be live webcast enabling remote participation.  The meeting follows an initiative proposed by CGI.br and /1net. #netmundial2014.

The goal of the NetMundial is to consolidate proposals the goal of bringing together representatives of civil society, private sector, academia and technical community to establish strategic guidelines related to the use and development of the Internet in the world, NETmundial was concept into committees format, each one with representatives of the involved stakeholders, distinguished experts, aiming to give guidelines and organize the meeting.

The meeting is organized in a partnership between the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br) and /1Net, a forum that gathers international entities of the various stakeholders involved with Internet governance.

DotConnectAfrica since its inception in 2006 has been an active part of the DNS industry and have continuously contributed to the Internet Governance debate, be it one led by organizations like the ITU WCIT Draft of the future ITRs in November 2012 and ITU CWG-Internet: Public Consultation of March 2014, the African Union Cyber Security Draft Convention in October 2013 and conferences like the 2013 Transform Africa Heads of State Summit in Kigali Rwanda on New SmartAfrica Manifesto to Accelerate Socio-Economic Development.   DotConnectAfrica appreciates the Multistakeholder approach in developing strategies for a better future of internet governance.
