Feedback From Blaise Opiyo on DCA Corporate Boot Camp

  1. How was your experience at the DCA Corporate Boot Camp?blaise
The DCA Corporate Boot Camp was quite an interesting experience. The program is designed to foster collaboration, personal growth and creativity through active contribution to the projects undertaken by DCA. I had a supportive team and an immediate and mentor who guided me all through the program. Through the Boot Camp, I had the opportunity to learn new skills such as WordPress as well as utilize my knowledge on Figma to come up with creative designs.

  2. As a candidate for the DCA Corporate Boot Camp, how did it enhance your perceptions of the involvement of youth in Technology?
The DCA Corporate Boot Camp made me appreciate how much such programs can open up the youth to new skills and ideas. One of the aspects that stood out from the beginning was the opportunity to choose an area of interest from the available ones which were Mobile Development, Digital Marketing, Digital Sales, and  Web Services. The program provides the opportunity to grow in the chosen area of interest and even switch to any other desirable fields.
Another key takeaway was the role of mentorship and support. The Boot Camp paired me with mentors who provided valuable guidance and encouragement. It was been great growing through the mentorship offered by the Boot Camp and this has highlighted the importance of creating an environment that nurtures young talent and empowers them to become creative.

  3. What innovations and disciplines have you learned after joining DCA Corporate Boot Camp ?

Since joining DCA Corporate Boot Camp, I have had the opportunity to learn and explore tools and technologies that have significantly expanded my knowledge base.
One of the tools I got to learn about was Slack. Slack helps teams collaborate and stay in sync wherever they are. Throughout my time at DCA, I have used Slack to share ideas, have discussions, and do huddle meetings with the team. This made it easy to communicate and have access to my coworkers.
The Boot Camp also introduced me to WordPress. I got to learn that it’s a powerful Website builder tool and it powers most of the websites used today. It is beginner friendly and has a wide variety of useful plugins, themes, and templates. Having loved designing with Figma, I also learnt that Figma designs can be easily converted to WordPress themes using Elementor.
Lastly, I became familiar with Mobile Development and the language used. I was introduced to Flutter that is used to develop mobile applications.

  4. Outline your take on the future of technology in Africa/Globally?
Connectivity & Internet Access: The widespread growth of internet access is one of the most significant changes we’ll see. As governments and private firms collaborate to close the digital divide, this progress will be especially visible in Africa.

Fintech and digital payments: Financial technology will transform the African banking industry by opening up financial services to millions of unbanked people.

  5. Any message to other youth who would want to venture into digital careers?
The digital world is huge and always evolving. Embrace it and explore new tools, platforms, and technologies
